Advanced Welding Technologies
ARC develops advanced welding processes and automation, and we do this by promoting the use of advanced welding processes and broadening welding research and development in Alberta.
We do this through joint industry projects (JIPs), and by expanding the field of knowledge of high productivity welding technologies. We offer you:
- expert technical advice and consultation
- access to leading-edge technology developments and research
- increased efficiency
- lower operating costs and lower overall capital costs
- improved competitive advantage in the global marketplace
How we can help you
We are involved in projects of all sizes, providing welding procedure development, troubleshooting services, training, testing, technical validation and other services. These are some of the ways we can help you:
Testing- mechanical
- WPS/PQR weldment
- fracture toughness (CTOD)
- high temperature tensile
- fatigue & dynamic
- charpy impact
- ASTM abrasion and erosion
- hardness & microhardness
- metallography
Process development
- materials selection
- development of new welding process technologies & consumables
Imaging and chemical analysis
- Optical microscopy & metallography
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) & Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX)
- X-ray diffraction (XRD)
- inductively-couple plasma analysis (ICP) for chemistry
- in-house expertise for all major analytical chemistry techniques
Training and technology deployment strategies
- implementation strategies for utilizing high-productivity wire-feed welding processes: third-party assessments and satisfying end user requirements
- technical welding technology/engineering training
- professional development
Welding Technologies
ARC has in-house welding facilities where we develop technologies. The facility currently offers:
GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding)
GMAW (gas metal arc welding)
FCAW (flux cored arc welding)
PTAW (plasma transferred arc welding)
SMAW (shielded metal arc welding)
Facilities and Testing
To support our advanced materials research and development, ARC has a number of facilities and testing capabilities.
