Waste Management: Waste Management Technologies

Waste Management Technologies

With unprecedented population growth and increased industrial development, municipalities and industry are grappling to find viable solutions to their waste management problems.

At the Alberta Research Council, we develop and commercialize wastewater and solid waste management technologies that turn waste into valuable resources. We are experts in renewable natural gas technology, composting, bio-filtration, landfill gas recovery and management, and bioreactor landfill design.

Waste represents an untapped economic potential

Our Waste Management team has successfully developed technologies that convert waste into renewable energy and value-added materials, such as renewable natural gas, industrial grade process water, plant nutrients, clean compost, and pelletized fuels for syngas production. These value-added products provide operators with new income streams while at the same time reducing costs associated with waste disposal. The ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is another advantage.

As these product and revenue streams continue to evolve and develop with urbanization, our goal is to be able to convert costly waste management infrastructures into creating clean, healthy, sustainable zero-waste cities.
