Waste Management: Composting Technologies

Composting Technologies

Composting of biosolids and municipal solid waste is an environmentally sound alternative to landfilling or incineration because it contributes to waste diversion goals while creating a valuable product - compost.

A new sensor process, Advanced Realtime Composting technology has the potential to significantly reduce costs for municipalities. Although sensors have been applied previously to optimize composting, the Realtime technology uses sensor control to provide "real time" information on conditions throughout an entire compost pile. This means that adjustments can be made instantly, shortening composting time and increasing the volume of bio-solids that can be processed.

ARC's composting technology is unique and offers a cheaper alternative to the more expensive in-vessel drum technology. This technology is being tested at a composting plant at Edmonton's Waste Management Centre of Excellence. We are looking for partners who are interested in commercializing these technologies.
