Leaders Award: Terry Macyk - Distinguished Scientist, BioResource Technologies

Terry Macyk has spent more than 40 years laying the groundwork to quickly and effectively reclaim and restore industrial sites to their natural state.

Technical Achievement: Robert Jost - Forest Products

Robert Jost's polymer research breakthrough is the cornerstone for a promising new ARC cellulose-based polymer program, with great potential for biomedical applications.

Rookie of the Year: Ben Fotty - Research Engineer, Advanced Materials

Within his first year at ARC, Ben Fotty of the Advanced Materials business unit spearheaded arrangements for two new Advanced Materials laboratories to prevent pipeline corrosion.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship:  The Sensors Engineering Team

The Sensors Engineering Team are responsible for the sensors that comprise the MineSentry system that save oil sands operators millions of dollars by reducing material, environmental and energy costs.  Team members include Rod Ridley, Gary Kovacik, Brad Johnston, Jim Curtis, Ryan Nickel and Linsong Cai.

Team Commitment: Materials and Reliability in Oil Sands (MARIOS)Team

The MARIOS Team tackles billion-dollar challenges of reliability and productivity in the oil sands with a multidisciplinary research team and an industry consortium.  Team members include John Zhou, Gary Fisher, Matthew Yarmuch, John Wolodko, Jenny Been, Wendy Holgate, Hongsang Rho, and Brian Wagg from C-FER Technologies.

Internal Customer Service: Corporate Relations Team

The Corporate Relations Team leverages its members’ talents in service to the organization, ensuring ARC projects get the high profile they deserve.  Team members include Steve Hogle, Bonni Clark, Jodi Tauber, Jennifer Moncion, Rob Semeniuk, Michelle Limoges, Julie Griffiths and Jessica Yamanaka.

External Customer Service: Grant Reekie and Karl Smith, Forest Products

Grant Reekie and Karl Smith rose to the challenge of creating a shippable house made of wheat (Oriented Split Straw Board) within a 6-week time span for a client’s important exhibit in China.

Improving the Work Environment: Fevzi Gumrah, Senior Research Scientist, Heavy Oil and Oil Sands

Fevzi Gumrah’s cheerful mentorship within the Heavy Oil and Oil Sands business unit ensures meaningful knowledge transfer between senior and junior staff in an inspiring, innovative office environment.
