Sensor system helps Syncrude meet recovery targets

ARC technology is helping Syncrude Canada Ltd. improve the rate of bitumen recovery at its Fort McMurray oil sands mining site.
CHALLENGE
Material developed through the hydrotransport pipeline contains a certain amount of clay fines material; the presence of these fines can reduce the efficiency of bitumen extraction. While these effects can be somewhat countered by appropriate process changes, timely measurement of the amount of fines is understandably very difficult.
